Guanacaste stretches from the picturesque Arenal volcano to the buzzy coastal town of Tamarindo, with a great swathe of national parkland in between.
Guanacaste, in northwest Costa Rica, is drier than the south and east, with a lively culture of surf and yoga, and some of the world’s finest beaches. Santa Teresa is one of our favourite spots, particularly around Playa Hermosa and Malpais.
The province is a lush, natural playground for those looking to paddle-board, surf, dive, birdwatch, horseback ride and play golf.
July to October is the time to see turtles nest and hatch. The birdlife, as with everywhere in Costa Rica, is prolific all year round.
It goes without saying that we have access to an extensive range of private properties, including spoiling ocean-view hideaways, a traditional working cattle ranch and, to the north, one of Costa Rica’s most prized estates, available to one family or party at a time.
You could also find yourself horseback riding on a working cattle farm and stand-up paddle-boarding along mangrove-lined rivers in the Nicoya Peninsula, or heading to the laid-back Caribbean coast to enjoy the reggae vibes and picturesque beaches.
