La Carolina Lodge is a family-run lodge located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park, in northern Costa Rica.
With a freshwater river winding through the property, guests can enjoy a refreshing dip after a busy day of exploring the tropical rainforest.
What we love about La Carolina Lodge
- The 10 cabins, all different in size, and most with a private terrace and hammocks
- The birding – expect to see varieties of toucans, parrots, and hummingbirds
- The wildlife – as well as birds, monkeys, sloths, anteaters, coatis, frogs, and butterflies can also be found
- The lack of WiFi at the lodge, offering guests the opportunity to properly switch off
- Most of La Carolina is lit by candles and the electricity in the cabins is limited, meaning the lodge has minimal impact on the environment
- The food – simple, but delicious. The beans, rice, fruits and vegetables are all grown on the farm at La Carolina
You won’t be short of things to do at the La Carolina Lodge, nestled in the rainforest.
Go hiking, riding, or bird watching. Fishing or swimming in the freshwater river is not to be missed. Helping to milk the cows in the morning is also a highlight here.
For those looking to relax, make the most of La Carolina’s inviting swimming pool and wood-fired hot tub. Yoga classes are also available.
When
to Travel
Costa Rica has two seasons. The dry season starts in December and runs through to April, and the rainy season starts in May and runs through to November.
La Carolina Lodge can be visited year-round, but we recommend travelling between December and April to avoid the heaviest downpours.
