Southeast of Bogotá, the Andes mountains give way to a vast tropical grassland known as Los Llanos (the plains). This agricultural heartland occupies over 1/4 of Colombia’s landmass. The region teems with wildlife, harbouring some 700 species of bird and more than 100 species of mammals, including caiman, turtle, anaconda, capybara, deer, armadillo, and wildcat.
The best way to experience Los Llanos is to stay at remote tented camp – Corocora – located in a 9,000 hectare private reserve and available during dry season, December thru April. Days are spent horse riding, tracking puma, off-roading, bird watching and herding cattle with the llaneros (cowboys). Our staff includes a first rate ornithologist and a talented chef and cocktail supremo.
