THE SALSA CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

WELCOME TO CALI

Wherever you go in Santiago de Cali, Colombia’s third largest city, the pulse of salsa music follows. Temperatures here rarely fall below a steamy 80°F/26°C, thanks to its position in the tropical Cauca Valley at the foot of the Farallones de Cali mountain range.

When not dancing, the draw of Cali is the pretty colonial old town with its local markets. However, most surprisingly, the local food scene is worth checking out. We recommend two days here exploring Cali before continuing south to the leafy plazas, churches and monasteries of Popayan, “the White City”, and then on to the archaeological site of San Agustín, set in some of Colombia’s most bucolic countryside.

TRAVELLING DEEPER

We will provide a hit-list of our favourite places to eat, drink and dance, but if you would like us to arrange a salsa guide we can certainly do so.

One spot you shouldn’t miss is Tin Tin Deo, a lively bar that has become one of the city’s most iconic salsa clubs. Dance alongside the Caleños with live bands playing Salsa Choke and other Afro-Colombian rhythms.

ELSEWHERE IN COLOMBIA

Travel to the lush green hills of The Coffee Triangle to learn more about producing the world’s favourite drink, from bean to cup.

Many of the delights of Colombia are found off the beaten track. Take in the Marquezian charm of Mompox, the biodiversity of the Amazon, the wild beauty of El Chocó, the quaint cobbles of Barichara, or the vast wetlands of Los Llanos.
