Estancia Los Potreros

Luxury Estancia in Cordoba, Argentina

Welcome to Estancia Los Potreros

Estancia Los Potreros is a 6,000 acre working cattle farm that has been in the same Anglo-Argentine family for four generations.

Set among the rolling hills of the Sierras Chicas in Córdoba, Los Potreros is as much a family home as it is a ranch. With more than 50 horses and miles of riding trails on its doorstep, it’s one of Argentina’s finest estancias for exploring on horseback, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced rider.

Ride through open pastures, walk among wildflowers, or simply watch the gauchos at work. Between adventures, relax with a glass of local wine and enjoy authentic, farm-to-table meals served outdoors, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Argentine countryside.

What we love about Los Potreros

  • Fourth-generation owners Kevin and Louisa Begg live on the estancia and are often there to personally welcome guests, sharing the horses, landscapes and traditions that have shaped family life here for more than a century.
  • The spectacular location in the Sierras Chicas hills between the Andes and the Pampas.
  • The six simple, yet extremely comfortable rooms, with exposed wooden beams, antique art, local textiles, and cosy fireplaces.
  • Wonderfully well-trained horses; with more than 50 on the estancia, each guest is matched to one that suits their riding style and confidence.
  • Opportunities throughout the year to ride alongside gauchos during cattle gathers, branding and other seasonal ranch work.
  • The relaxed, sociable atmosphere, where guests gather around one long table each evening for generous Argentine dinners and plenty of conversation.
What to do at Estancia Los Potreros

Be sure to get involved with the farm work at Los Potreros, including herding cattle and feeding the foals.

It’s all about horses at Estancia Los Potreros. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, head out with one of the estancia’s gauchos, and take in the incredible scenery around you. The horses are all extremely well-looked after, and of good temperament. Polo lessons are also on offer.

There’s plenty to do away from the saddle, too: walk in the grounds, cool off in the pool or enjoy a long lunch before an afternoon visit to one of Córdoba’s boutique wineries. Keen birdwatchers can also head out with an expert guide in search of some of the region’s more elusive species.

Tea and cake is served each afternoon; later, guests gather around the dining table for Argentine home cooking, local wines and stories from the day’s adventures.

When to Travel

Estancia Los Potreros can be visited year-round. We would recommend spring (October and November) and autumn (March and April) as the best times to visit, as the summer months (January and February) can be extremely hot and humid. Winter (July  and August) is also a good time to visit, as the weather is dry and mild, and temperatures during the day are around 18°C.
