Casa Paguimalal

PRIVATE VILLA IN PATAGONIA

WELCOME TO PAGUIMALAL

Casa Paguimalal is an extraordinary private estate in Chile’s Lake District, overlooking Lake Villarrica and Villarica volcano.

A four-bedroom house sits within 20 hectares of native forest and gardens, with a creek running through the grounds. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and distinctly Chilean, with grand shared spaces under high timber ceilings, and big windows looking into the forest and towards the lake. It was built as a family home, and still very much feels like one; the owners have been coming to this part of Chile for four generations.

The house is fully staffed and all-inclusive, with a private chef, butler Antonella, house team and dedicated driver, and an extensive menu of privately-guided experiences both on and off the estate. Despite its sense of remoteness, it lies just ten minutes from Pucón, a small, charming mountain town that is Chile’s answer to Jackson Hole.

What we love about Casa Paguimalal

  • Deeply personalised service: the villa manager and chef create a bespoke itinerary and menu for every set of guests based on how you like to travel, and offer 24/7 concierge service and a full-time driver.
  • Designed as a home away from home: the house is grand and spacious, with vast grounds and generous indoor and outdoor social spaces, yet still maintains a relaxed, intimate feel.
  • The wellness area hidden among the trees, with a semi-Olympic natural swimming pool, a wood-fired hot tub, a hot pool, cold plunge carved from a tree trunk, glass-fronted sauna, gym and yoga area.
  • The family-friendly set-up: three of the bedrooms have loft spaces with additional beds, making it particularly well-suited to multi-generational groups or families travelling together.
  • The outstanding staff, including chef, full-time driver, butler Antonella, gardener and housekeeping team, all of whom have worked together for years and are part of the Paguimalal family.
  • Exceptional range of privately-guided experiences included, with hand-picked guides – developed by the owner, who has a lifelong connection to the region and deep knowledge of what she wants to share with guests.

What to do at Casa Paguimalal

The Lake District is Chile’s adventure playground, and experiences are at the heart of every stay here.

Days might be spent rafting, kayaking or hiking through the Lake District, joining a private cooking session with the chef, tasting wines with the house sommelier, or learning about Mapuche culture from a respected community elder. Wellness experiences range from yoga and massage to sound therapy, guided meditation and forest bathing. In winter, guests can ski, snowshoe or randonnée on the volcano against a backdrop of smoking volcanic peaks.

What sets Paguimalal apart is the way these experiences are delivered. A morning rafting might end with a traditional Patagonian asado at a long table set in the shade of a 500-year-old tree; a morning on the volcano with lunch prepared in the snow by the villa chef. Throughout, the house team brings the same care and creativity to adventures beyond the property as they do to life within it.

When to Travel

Casa Paguimalal can be visited year-round. Late spring and summer (November to February) are ideal for making the most of the Lake District’s lakes, rivers and volcanoes, with long daylight hours and warm temperatures. Autumn (March to May) brings fiery colours to the surrounding forest and cooler, crisper days, while winter transforms the landscape, with skiing, snowshoeing and mountain lunches on the slopes of Villarrica Volcano.
