A LUXURY VACATION TO CHILE’s WINE COUNTRY
The world’s seventh-largest wine producer, Chile’s considerable length spanning 2,672 miles of terroirs affords the South American country an abundance of latitudinal diversity.
From Copiapó Valley in the Atacama desert region in the north to the stony soils of Bio-Bio in Patagonia, Chile is home to a plethora of viñas (wineries) and lodges ready to welcome wine lovers.
Sip Syrah by day in the Elqui Valley, then get a twinkle in your eye catching shooting stars at the Gabriela Mistral Dark Sky Sanctuary by night. Stop off in Casablanca to enjoy a tasting of whites before a late lunch in the bohemian port city Valparaíso, a Unesco heritage site. Or escape Santiago for a day on a tailor-made Central Valley private tour or unwind with a stay in a luxury vineyard suite. Wherever you are in Chile, an Andean vista and the Pacific Ocean will never be too far from the glass in your hand.

CHILE’S VARIETALS AND VINEYARDS
Your cup will overflow with nature and adventure amidst Chile’s contrasting landscapes.
Two valleys are especially notable. Known as South America’s answer to Bordeaux, Maipo is renowned for powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and smooth Merlot, while aromatic Sauvignon Blanc and crunchy Chardonnay rule Casablanca. Both valleys are excellent city escapes given that they are 45-minute drives from capital Santiago.
Other varieties are also creating waves. For many years, grape growers mistook Carménère for Merlot but now the intense violet-hued red is a home-grown favourite cultivated in the Colchagua and Cachapoal Valleys. Cinsault is a delightful alternative to young Pinot Noir, while the hipster drinking set relishes País, a light red cultivated on heritage vines in the southerly Itatá Valley.
