A Caribbean island blessed with pristine and tall coconut palms, Cuban beaches and coastline are picture-perfect.
Accommodation is limited to a handful of 5-star all-inclusive hotels, which are clean and comfortable, although service is relaxed and Cuban authenticity somewhat lacking. For a few days’ rest before returning home, with no greater agenda than lazing on white sand enjoying cocktails and a good book, the Cuban beaches perfectly rounds off a cultural journey through Cuba’s inland highlights. If top-end rooms and service are a priority, hop over to a more developed Caribbean island, or take an hour’s flight to Mexico’s Riviera Maya for stunning hotels and villas.
The Cayos off the east coast are top of our list and Vedado is a great option just a couple of hours’ drive from Havana, avoiding a long drive or domestic flight (subject to last minute schedule changes) with more private casas to stay in. Travelling Cuba’s western loop (Havana, Viñales & Trinidad), a beach is always within reach for a day or afternoon of relaxation. From Trinidad, Playa Ancon is a 20-minute drive – take a luxury catamaran for a day out on the water, snorkelling and deep-sea fishing.
