A LUXURY VACATION TO CHILE’S WINE COUNTRY
The world’s seventh-largest wine producer, Chile stretches over 2,672 miles – a span that gives rise to extraordinary latitudinal diversity in its terroirs.
From the arid, mineral-rich soils of the Atacama’s Copiapó Valley to the stony landscapes of Bio-Bio in northern Patagonia, Chile is home to a collection of viñas (wineries) and luxury lodges welcoming those who travel for wine.
Sip Syrah in the Elqui Valley by day, then trace constellations at the Gabriela Mistral Dark Sky Sanctuary by night. Stop off in Casablanca for a tasting of cool-climate whites before a late lunch in Valparaíso, the port city turned artistic enclave and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Or escape Santiago for a private tasting tour through the Central Valley, ending the night in a design-forward vineyard suite. Wherever you are in Chile, the Andes and the Pacific Ocean will never be too far from the glass in your hand.

VISITING CHILE’S VINEYARDS & WINERY LODGES
Stroll through vineyards with the winemakers, settle in for long, slow lunches, and sleep in smart suites set among the vines.
When it comes to wine, two valleys stand out. Maipo, often likened to Bordeaux, is renowned for powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and smooth Merlot. Casablanca, closer to the coast, is ruled by aromatic Sauvignon Blanc and crunchy Chardonnay. Both are easy escapes from Santiago, just a 45-minute drive from the capital.
Chile’s lesser-known grapes are also making waves. For many years, grape growers mistook Carménère for Merlot, but now the intense violet-hued red is a home-grown favourite cultivated in the Colchagua and Cachapoal Valleys. Cinsault is a delightful alternative to young Pinot Noir, while the hipster drinking set relishes País, a light red cultivated on heritage vines in the southerly Itatá Valley.
Our specialists can shape a fully bespoke Chilean wine journey around your tastes, whether you’re after heritage varietals, small-scale biodynamic producers, or time spent with the people behind the vines.
