Casa Aamori

Boutique Beach Hotel in San Agustinillo, Oaxaca

WELCOME TO CASA AAMORI

A small, chic and wonderfully low-key beach hotel on Oaxaca’s wild Pacific coast.

Casa Aamori sits at the quieter eastern end of San Agustinillo, a small fishing village where the foothills of the Sierra Madre meet a long sweep of golden beach and the Pacific rolls in with considerable force.

The hotel itself is intimate and adults-only, with simple palapa-roofed rooms arranged around a palm-filled garden and small swimming pool, and the beach just a few feet away. San Agustinillo itself is easygoing and pleasingly under the radar, while neighbouring Mazunte is close enough to walk to for dinner, drinks or sunset at Punta Cometa.

What we love about Casa Aamori

  • The location right on one of our favourite beaches in Mexico, within easy walking distance of restaurants.
  • Rooms are spacious and unfussy, with high palapa roofs, handmade wooden furniture and private terraces; the best face straight out over the Pacific.
  • The open-air restaurant overlooks the beach and serves breakfast and lunch, with plenty of fresh fish and seafood from the local catch.
  • A lovely palm-fringed swimming pool sits in the gardens just behind the beach, with loungers and shaded daybeds.
  • Owner Patricia is a brilliant host – charming, attentive and one of the reasons this little hotel works as well as it does.
  • Plenty of activities on offer, including yoga and spa treatments, fishing, horse riding, kayaking and snorkelling.
What to do at Casa Aamori

Much of the appeal here lies in exploring this still-wild stretch of the Oaxacan coast.

San Agustinillo is still a wonderfully low-key place, with fishing boats on the sand, a handful of open-air restaurants and a slightly backpackerish feel. The Pacific is magnificent but powerful: when the swell is up, swimming can be challenging, but surfing and bodyboarding are great fun. Turtles nest along this coast, and offshore you can spot dolphins and – in winter – humpback whales.

Walk west along the beach and within fifteen minutes you’ll be in Mazunte, home to more restaurants, bars and boutiques. Continue out to Punta Cometa, a rocky headland jutting into the Pacific and one of the best places on the coast to watch the sunset.

Further afield, visit the mangroves of La Ventanilla by boat, visit the olive ridley turtles nesting grounds at La Escobilla, or kayak on Laguna de Manialtepec; when conditions are right, its waters glow with bioluminescent plankton.

When to Travel

Our favourite time to visit is between November and March, when the temperature is warm and rainfall is minimal. This is also the time when sea turtles are released into the ocean.
