La Carolina Lodge is a rustic, family-owned lodge and farm deep in the Costa Rican jungle, on the edge of the Rio Celeste.
A truly special place where you can slow down, relax and reconnect with nature. Ten off-grid cabins sit on the slopes of Tenorio Volcano, overlooking a fresh water river and surrounded by lush tropical forest, home to wildlife including monkeys, sloths, toucans, parrots, and hummingbirds.
Guests can swim in the crystal clear river, walk forest trails, watch birds from the veranda, horse ride through meadows, and try their hand at milking cows – ending the evening soaking in the wood-fired hot tub.
What we love about La Carolina Lodge
- Incredibly peaceful and secluded – totally off-grid, no WiFi, proper opportunity to switch off, just the sounds of rushing river and birdsong
- Comfortable cabins, with private bathroom, hot shower, balcony, hammock and lovely rocking chairs.
- Sitting at breakfast watching toucans and other birds come down to feed at bird tables 10 metres away.
- Fresh, simple Costa Rican dinners by candlelight on the deck overlooking the river – the beans, rice, fruits and vegetables are all grown on the farm at La Carolina
- Yoga and spa offering massages and facials beside the river
- The farm tours – see pigs, collected eggs from chickens, milked the cows and so many horses.
You won’t be short of things to do at the La Carolina Lodge, nestled in the rainforest.
Go hiking, riding, or bird watching. Fishing or swimming in the freshwater river is not to be missed. Helping to milk the cows in the morning is also a highlight here. River float and rafting tours on the nearby Rio Corobici river will get the heart going.
For those looking to relax, make the most of La Carolina’s inviting swimming pool and wood-fired hot tub. Yoga classes are also available.
Beyond La Carolina, there is also nearby breath taking Rio Celeste waterfall, located in Tenorio Volcano National Park, and day trips to the spectacular Arenal Volcano where you can experience canopy tours, hot springs and hikes to a spectacular waterfall.
La Carolina Lodge is located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park, in northern Costa Rica. The lodge is less than a two hour drive from Liberia airport, and approximately a four hour drive from San Jose airport.
When to Travel
Costa Rica has two seasons. The dry season starts in December and runs through to April, and the rainy season starts in May and runs through to November.
La Carolina Lodge can be visited year-round, but we recommend travelling between December and April to avoid the heaviest downpours.
