OKA sits at the highest point of a private 62-hectare reserve on Brazil’s Bahian coast, surrounded by native Atlantic Forest with panoramic views over the Atlantic and Rio de Contas. Created by Swedish-Brazilian owners, it combines the clean lines of Scandinavian design with Brazilian materials, furniture and craftsmanship, built around the contours of the hillside.
Spread across 3,500 square metres, OKA has nine suites, including a generous two-level master suite, and an extraordinary swimming pool that wraps around the hillside. There is a private spa and wellness centre, gym, cinema, wine cellar. Inside and out, the living spaces open directly onto the Atlantic Forest.

Head out with a local surf guide, choosing the day’s beach according to the swell and your experience, with different breaks reached by car, trail or boat. Tiririca, close to town, has hosted international competitions; others such as Prainha and Jeribucaçu are reached on foot through the forest or by 4×4.
Explore the Rio de Contas aboard a traditional wooden boat, heading upriver through mangroves and riverside communities. Stop to paddleboard and swim along the way, finishing on the beach at sunset with freshly caught fish cooked on the sand.
On land, follow the coast through the beaches of Resende, Tiririca, Costa and Ribeira and continue into the Atlantic Forest to Prainha, stopping to swim and explore the beach, and picnicking beneath the coconut trees. Further inland, visit a cacao farm near Taboquinhas, where cacao is grown using agroecological methods. Follow the process from seed to chocolate, tasting cacao honey, nibs and chocolate made on the farm.
When to Travel
Itacaré never truly gets cold, with warm temperatures throughout the year. December to March brings hotter days and warmer seas; August to October is typically drier and a little cooler. Tropical showers are possible at any time, with no completely dry season – rainfall is typically heaviest in March and April. Surfers should look to May through September, when larger Atlantic swells arrive along the Bahian coast.
