OUR GUIDE TO LATIN AMERICA’S BEST JUNE DESTINATIONS

June brings a change of character to South America: crisp mornings in the Andes, wildlife on the move in Brazil’s wetlands, and festivals lighting up ancient Incan capitals.

Clear skies open up high-altitude trails, desert nights mean perfect stargazing, and the tropics remain warm and welcoming. For those wondering where to go in Latin America in June, we’ve hand-picked the destinations below to inspire your travels – from swimming in Brazil’s desert lagoons to Peru’s Sacred Valley celebrations. As ever, our specialists are on hand to give you detailed guidance and expert suggestions in creating your bespoke trip.

Lencois Maranhenses, Brazil

Brazil

June is a great time to visit Brazil, when the weather is cooler and conditions favour both wildlife and adventure.

In the Pantanal, retreating floodwaters bring jaguars, caiman and capybara into view, creating the most reliable wildlife-spotting of the year. Further north, the sand dunes of the Lençóis Maranhenses transform into a mirage of freshwater lagoons, perfect for swimming and boating. Down south, Rio and São Paulo enjoy mild winter sunshine, perfect for city exploration.

Explore Brazil

Peru

Peru in June means blue skies, festival spirit, and sharp visibility across the Andes and Amazon, without the crowds of July and August.

Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley are at their most striking, with trails free from the heavy rains of earlier months, making this one of the most rewarding times to explore the Andes. In Cusco, the Inti Raymi festival fills the city with parades, music and Inca ritual. The Amazon, meanwhile, is easier to explore, with river levels still high enough for boat journeys but less humidity. Few places capture the magic of South America in June quite like Peru.

Explore Peru

Ecuador & the Galapagos

In June, the Galápagos burst into life with dramatic wildlife activity. Sea lions tumble in the surf, sea birds perform elaborate courtship dances, and underwater visibility is superb for snorkelling and diving. Meanwhile, on the mainland, Ecuador’s highlands shine under crisp skies, making it our favourite time to explore Quito’s colonial plazas, scale the volcanic peaks of Cotopaxi, and experience the artisan markets of Otavalo.

Plan South America | Bolivia | Uyuni Salt Flats

Bolivia

The Bolivian Andes are at their very best in June, as crystal-clear skies and dry weather open the door to some of the country’s most dramatic landscapes. On the Salar de Uyuni, vast white salt flats stretch to the horizon, best explored by 4×4 under brilliant sunlight and sharp starlight. La Paz is crisp and bright, perfect for exploring its markets and riding the city’s famous cable cars between mountain ridges. Lake Titicaca shimmers in the sharp winter light, and Sucre’s whitewashed colonial streets offer a gentle contrast to the stark Altiplano.
