Pousada Tutabel | Plan South America

Beach I Brazil I Property

Surrounded by the exuberant beauty of the Brazilian coast, Pousada Tutabel is a green oasis that blends the hippie spirit of nearby Trancoso with sophisticated luxury. There’s horse-riding on the beach, kayaking through creeks and guided nature walks. But really this is a magical place to simply do nothing.

What we love about Pousada Tutabel

  • 17 charming, spacious suites and villas hidden throughout the Pousadas gardens
  • Sophisticated menu, created by chef Bertrand Materne, offering contemporary Brazilian cuisine
  • Privileged location along Itapororoca Beach, one of the quietest in Trancoso
  • The Pousada owns a Private Natural Heritage Reserve, Rio do Brasil, which has eight trails to walk or cycle
  • Less than 10 minutes from the famous Quadrado of Trancoso
  • Their commitment to conservation and sustainability
  • The laid-back-but-luxe atmosphere of this part of the Brazilian coastline

What to do at Pousada Tutabel?

Turn off your phone and be beguiled by the slow pace of life. Feel the warm sand between your toes. Amble from your hammock to the pool or the sea for a dip. Pamper yourself with a relaxing treatment or while the day away sipping on caipirinhas.

This part of Brazil’s coastline, known as Discovery Coastline, is also full of history and an abundance of wildlife. Kayak through creeks and along the first mapped river in Brazil. Explore the nature reserve with a wildlife guide. Visit the Pataxó Jaqueira village to learn about the traditional indigenous people and their language, culture and way of life.

Make sure to venture along the coast to the enchanting fishing village, Trancoso. With its cobblestone streets and its dirt roads, it seems untouched by time. Breathe in the bohemian spirit and feel your shoulders drop. The town square, Quadrado, bordered by colourful, old fisherman houses, is a UNESCO world heritage site. After the sun sets, the square comes alive with al-fresco diners, artisans and dancers.

EXPERIENCES

Butterfly House, Brazil | Plan South America

We get very overexcited when we discover a place like Butterfly House. Most guests arrive by boat from a nearby fishing village. That's how things work in northern Brazil's Maraú Peninsula.

The lodge sits amid pristine rainforest and opens onto warm sands and crashing surf. There are coral reefs and freshwater lakes to explore, and the surrounding jungle is home to marmosets, anteaters, armadillos and plenty of rare plant and birdlife. The village of Barra Grande is half an hours zoom up the beach on one of the lodge's quads - fun for samba and sundowners.

The emphasis at Butterfly is on homespun charm and character. Its six rooms - all suites and private bungalows - are individually designed. Thatched grass roofs, Colombian bamboo and 300-year old Brazil nut wood meet warm interiors adorned with Moroccan textiles, French ceramics and local Bahian art.

This is tipped to be Brazil's next hotspot, so get booking! We recommend 4-5 nights to make the most of it.
