Estancia La Sofía

in San Antonio de Areco, Argentina

WELCOME TO ESTANCIA LA SOFÍA

Refine your polo swing or simply relax at Estancia La Sofía, where you’ll find as much–or as little–activity as you please.

The love for sport, the outdoors, and family come together at La Sofía: an active polo club and boutique hotel just 100km outside of Buenos Aires.

At this intimate countryside stay, owners Marcos and Silke have established a comprehensive Argentine experience for those wishing to play or learn polo, ride amongst the pampas, try their hand as the asador, or just enjoy the open skies.

What we love about Estancia La Sofía

  • Six spacious and comfortable suites, each with their own bathroom and some with their own fireplace.
  • Polo lessons & practice for players of all ages and expertise on the property’s two regulation polo fields.
  • Inviting outdoor pool with bar service offered throughout the day.
  • Outstanding hospitality rendered by Marcos, Silke, and their team, who are passionate about delivering detailed service to each guest.
  • Aside from polo, guests can learn how to prepare mate and traditional Argentine asado, enjoy a private wine tasting, take guacho-led rides through the landscape, and birdwatch.
  • Close proximity to the charming town of San Antonio de Areco.
What to do at Estancia La Sofía

The Estanica La Sofía experience runs the gamut of Argentine culture.

Wake up in the peace of the pampas to the hum of cicadas, whisper of leaves, and galloping hooves. Once energized by your morning coffee, tea, or mate, guests can partake in a polo lesson taught by world-class professionals.

Off the polo field, there are horses and bicycles to ride, walks, birdwatching, asado classes and visits to local artisans. Explore the rolling grasslands from the saddle accompanied by gauchos, who will teach you how to prepare the perfect Argentine barbecue.
It’s worth visiting the nearby town of San Antonio de Areco, home to silversmiths, artists, artisans, and an impressive museum dedicated to gaucho culture. Spend your evenings unwinding by the pool watching the sun set over the pampas before a rustic candle-lit dinner.

When to Travel

Buenos Aires & The Pampas Region can be visited year-round. We’d recommend visiting during the polo season (October to early December) for the opportunity to watch a polo game.

In November of each year, the Cup of Tradition takes place at Estancia La Sofía as part of festivities celebrating San Antonio de Areco. The tournament is supported by the AAP (Asociación Argentina de Polo).
