Casa Cajuína is a two-bedroom house set in the southern Brazilian highlands, just outside the village of Capão.
In a quieter pocket of the Chapada Diamantina region, it is simple and spacious – five acres of gardens, agroforestry and native forest, with 200 metres of river running through the land and mountains on all sides.
It works well for couples or families who want their own place to settle into, with enough distance from the village to feel private, but close enough to walk in for dinner, supplies or a change of scene.
What we love about Casa Cajuína
- The scale of the property – five acres to wander, with riverfront, gardens and pockets of forest.
- The house set-up is lived in and practical, with two bedrooms, a proper kitchen, mezzanine spaces that work well for children, and a separate sitting room.
- Outdoor areas set up for everyday use – two covered verandas, a a volleyball court, lawns, dining spaces and a firepit.
- The excellent housekeeper and caretaker, who keep everything running smoothly.
- Just 1km from Capão, for cafés, shops and local life.
- The link to Casas Tropicalia’s wider work in the region, including community projects that guests can learn more about during their stay.
Life at Casa Cajuína is simple and largely centred on the property itself.
After breakfast and nature-spotting on the veranda, wander into the village of Capao and meander the colourful streets, dipping in and out of craft stores and local restaurants.
Enjoy afternoons on the volleyball court, paddle boarding on the river, or curled up with a book on the cosy corner sofa. Evenings are for home-cooked dinners around the outdoor dining table and gathering around the fire pit, gazing at the clear night sky.
When to Travel
The best time to visit Capao is between May and September, when dry season falls on the Chapada Mountains. Little rainfall and warm temperatures make this the perfect time for hiking, exploring, and beach days on the Bahia coast.
