Hidden amongst a tropical forest, Casa Angatu is a relaxed Bahia villa designed around indoor-outdoor living.
Built by the Fenestraz family, the house sleeps up to ten guests across five suites and has a distinctly Brazilian charm. Its lush tropical gardens and outdoor living spaces are complete with a swimming pool, barbecue, and pizza oven.
From here, it’s a short walk to both Trancoso’s colourful Quadrado and its unspoiled stretches of beach.
What we love about Casa Angatu
- A peaceful setting at the end of a quiet lane, just far enough from the famous Quadrado to offer its guests perfect peace and privacy.
- Five generous, air-conditioned suites each with a private bathroom; two suites have dual indoor/outdoor showers.
- Rustic-chic Brazilian design, built by local artisans carefully selected for their commitment to honoring the culture, style, and traditions of this region of Brazil.
- Fully equipped professional kitchen, with barbecue and pizza oven
- Just fifteen minutes from Trancoso’s beaches and reefs for surfing, kite surfing, scuba diving and snorkelling.
- Daily housekeeping, pool and garden care, and a concierge service on hand throughout your stay.
Start on Trancoso’s coast, where wide stretches of sand run north and south of the village.
Swim, settle in on a lounger, or take a kitesurfing or surfing lesson. Boat trips and snorkelling along nearby reefs are easily arranged. Back in the village, browse the small, colourfully-painted shops and galleries around the grassy Quadrado, or stop for lunch in a local restaurant.
For a change of scene, explore the surrounding countryside on foot or by bike, or take day trips to nearby beaches such as Praia do Espelho or Caraíva, where sandy streets and riverfront bars give a glimpse of Bahia’s older way of life.
Evenings often begin back at to the villa, firing up the barbecue or pizza oven, before heading out for caipirinhas on the Quadrado or along the beach.
Casa Angatu, built by the Fenestraz family, is located in Trancoso along Brazil’s Bahia coast. Once just a fishing village, Trancoso now draws a very elite crowd whilst still maintaining its local, laidback charm. The nearest airport, Porto Seguro Airport, is 1 hour and 30 minutes by car. There are direct flights to Porto Seguro from a number of cities within Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Sao Paulo.
When to Travel
Trancoso is warm year round, and the temperature varies very little throughout the year. There’s likely to be more rain between April and July, although it can rain at any time of the year.
If you’re after Brazilian culture, visit Casa Angatu during one of Trancoso’s festivals.
