Where to Travel in November

BEST PLACES TO GO IN LATIN AMERICA IN NOVEMBER

November is a sweet spot across much of Latin America: spring has taken hold, landscapes have opened up, and the summer rush is still weeks away.

We’ve hand-picked a handful of November standouts that work particularly well – from Uruguay’s countryside to Oaxaca’s Día de Muertos, Colombia’s Caribbean coast and Guatemala’s highlands.

All of our journeys are tailor-made. Whether you’re looking for wilderness adventures or white-sand beaches, our specialists can steer you towards a trip that’s thoughtfully-timed. full of character, and designed entirely around you.

Uruguay

Uruguay comes into its own in November, just before the summer crowds arrive. It’s a fine time for an unhurried road trip through the rural interior, stopping at working estancias, vineyards and quiet villages. Montevideo adds a cultural angle with its art spaces and candombe traditions, and Colonia del Sacramento’s UNESCO-listed streets suit a day or two of wandering on foot.

Along the Atlantic coast, José Ignacio and Punta del Este have stirred from winter, with restaurants reopening and long, quiet beaches still free of the December holiday rush.

Mexico

November is a wonderfully resonant time to experience Mexico. Día de Muertos is observed throughout the country with altars, flowers and neighbourhood processions; Oaxaca is especially atmospheric. Afterwards, make for the beaches of Puerto Escondido, where turtle hatching takes place along quieter stretches of coast.

Further afield, we focus on the jungles and cenotes of the Yucatán, and slow overland journeys through the towns of the Central Highlands, shaped around food and artisanal traditions.

Colombia

November is a great time to pair Colombia’s Caribbean coast with time inland. Cartagena is dry and sunny, its old quarter best taken in on foot, before heading out to the Rosario Islands or along the coast to Tayrona National Park.

Further inland, Salento and Filandia in the Coffee Triangle are lush and green; we like to place guests in small fincas, with access to trail walks and rides through working coffee country. Medellín offers a dose of urban Colombia, with cutting-edge art spaces, architecture and steep cable-car-linked hillside neighbourhoods.

Guatemala

Guatemala’s highlands feel particularly rewarding in November. Stroll Antigua‘s colonial centre, bicycle through surrounding coffee plantations, and scale nearby volcanoes Pacaya or Acatenango. On pretty Lake Atitlán, boat journeys link lakeside villages and artisan communities, where weaving and craft traditions remain integral to daily life.

Further north, travel can extend into Guatemala’s lowland jungles, with early visits to Tikal allowing for a quieter experience of the ruins within their forest setting.
