WELCOME TO BELMOND CASA DE SIERRA NEVADA
Set in the very heart of San Miguel de Allende is a cluster of colonial mansions, hidden behind heavy wooden doors and vine-strangled façades.
The hotel is made up of six artfully-restored houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. Cool stone passageways and thick, ivy-covered adobe walls give way to quiet courtyards, an ample pool, and gardens filled with orange trees.
Rooms and suites are individually designed – no two quite alike – though all feature carved wooden headboards, handwoven textiles, hand-painted talavera tiles, antique mirrors, and the occasional copper bath. Some come with private terraces and rooftop plunge pools where you can watch the sky colour in with a sundowner. This is a city that always looks its best at dusk.
What we love about Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada
- The location: the hotel blends discreetly into the historic centre’s colonial façades, making you feel more like a resident than a guest.
- The Signature Suites – the best rooms in the house, with postcard views of the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel.
- The open-air pool, set in a quiet courtyard and flanked by colourful flowers and loungers – ideal for escaping the heat with a drink in hand.
- The rooftop bar, Tunki, designed by the team by behind Mexico City’s Handshake (ranked #1 in The World’s 50 Best Bars 2024).
- The Laja Spa, drawing on Mexican botanicals and pre-Hispanic healing traditions, in a secluded corner of the hotel.
- The Sazón cooking school, housed in a historic casona, where chefs lead private cooking lessons and market visits for guests.

WHAT TO DO AT BELMOND CASA DE SIERRA NEVADA
Set off on foot – it’s the only sensible way to move through San Miguel’s tangle of streets – and allow yourself to be distracted.
Galleries, cantinas, antique markets, churches, hidden gardens – it’s all there, just waiting for you behind the next unmarked door.
At the hotel, take a private cooking class and experience the local markets alongside the hotel’s head chef. Hovering over the courtyard with incomparable city views is the rooftop bar, where you can sip on innovative cocktails and enjoy Peruvian-inspired tapas. And if this all sounds a little too energetic, take to a lounger by the pool – a shaded oasis framed by stucco walls and flowering vines – or book in for a signature Laja massage and emerge floaty and speechless.
