Pousada Tutabel

TRANCOSO, BRAZIL
WELCOME TO POUSADA TUTABEL

A secluded beachfront hideaway just outside the picture-perfect cliff-top fishing village of Trancoso.

Set just steps from Itapororoca Beach, Pousada Tutabel’s 18 contemporary suites and villas are hidden among acres of exotic gardens and native vegetation, linked by sandy paths. At its heart sit a pool, a relaxed open-air bar, and a restaurant serving unfussy Brazilian coastal cooking.

Beyond the pousada, there’s swimming or riding along Itapororoca’s shoreline, kayaking inland through mangrove creeks, or walking in Tutabel’s private 1000-acre reserve. When you feel like a change of pace, the restaurants and boutiques of Trancoso’s colourful main square lie just a short drive away.

What we love about Pousada Tutabel

  • The way the property is laid out – buildings are scattered rather than centralised, giving a genuine sense of space.
  • The poolside Tutabar, a natural gathering point for guests through the afternoons.
  • Chef Bertrand Materne’s kitchen, with a focus on Bahian produce and coastal Brazilian cooking.
  • Its position on Itapororoca, which is noticeably quieter than the main Trancoso beaches.
  • Access to the pousada’s Private Natural Heritage Reserve, Rio do Brasil – 1000 hectares of protected forest, with eight marked trails for walking, birdwatching and cycling.
  • Just 15 minutes from Trancoso’s colourful Quadrado, home to historic houses, restaurants, and boutiques.
WHAT TO DO AT POUSADA TUTABEL

Most guests fall into an easy routine – swimming, long lunches, and time by the pool.

Those inclined to venture further can explore the nature reserve with a naturalist guide, or kayak through creeks and along the first mapped river in Brazil. Horse riding can be arranged on the beach, and guests can visit the nearby Pataxó Jaqueira community to learn about the traditional indigenous people and their language, culture and way of life.

Make sure to venture along the coast to the enchanting fishing village of Trancoso, with its cobblestone streets, dirt roads, and UNESCO-listed Quadrado (main square), lined with restaurants, small galleries, and brightly-painted houses. After the sun sets, it comes alive with al-fresco diners, artisans and dancers.
