O Sítio

WELCOME TO O SITÍO

A secluded, family-run pousada set in the shade of bamboo and banana trees on Brazil’s idyllic Ilha Grande.

O Sitio has the feeling of an island home, with an easy, unpretentious atmosphere shaped by the family who run it. There are just nine suites, spread across two buildings – the Cabana, set closer to the water, and the Sobrado, at the centre of the property.

The pousada sits in the quiet bay of Abraãozinho, with its own stretch of sand and direct access to the sea. Vila do Abraão lies just a short boat trip across the cove, but the sense of separation is immediate.

What we love about O Sítio

  • The unpretentious yet spoiling vibe created by owners, Michel and Tonia, and their wonderfully warm team.
  • The year-round lush green of the garden, full of native flora and fauna.
  • Simple yet comfortable interiors, with huge windows in the Deluxe Suite and the Garden View Suites that make it feel like you’re sleeping in the jungle.
  • Fresh, plentiful Brazilian home cooking – the ceviche is a highlight.
  • The quiet stretch of beach that is exclusive to the hotel – meals can be delivered here on request.
  • The secluded setting – straightforward to access by boat, yet far removed from busier parts of the island.
What to do at O Sítio

After breakfast, wander down to the property’s private stretch of beach, O Rancho, and get kitted up to explore its clear turquoise waters.

Head out on a double kayak, try paddle boarding or snorkelling, or stay on dry land playing ball and racket games on the sand. The lively island town of Abraão lies just a ten-minute boat ride across the water for lunch, shops and a change of pace.

In the evening, kick back in a hammock on your veranda or in O Salão, where there are sofas, books and games.

O SÍTIO

Arrival at O Sítio is exclusively by boat, with departures from three points, ranging between 20-40 minutes transfer time.

The closest international airport is Rio de Janeiro (GIG), approximately 2.5 hours by land.

When to Travel

Ilha Grande stays warm year-round. December to February brings higher heat and humidity, while June to August tends to be slightly cooler, with more settled conditions and less rainfall.
