LUZ lies amid emerald-green vineyards, pine forest and olive groves on the road between Garzón and José Ignacio.
LUZ is a Culinary Wine Lodge located just a short drive from José Ignacio, a fishing village that balances rustic charm with an understated sophistication along Uruguay’s unspoiled coastline.
Set amidst 35 acres of serene countryside, this six-room retreat offers a rare sense of seclusion. Its attraction lies in the attentive hospitality, tranquil surroundings, and an exceptional gastronomic experience rooted in the region’s rich traditions.
What we love about LUZ
- LUZ was born out of its owner’s passion for architecture, food and wellbeing
- Drawing inspiration from Moroccan colours and design, guests enter into warm, bohemian elegance.
- There’s a gin bar, tennis & volleyball court, saltwater infinity pool, fishing rods, bikes and go karts
- Its location – just outside the quiet yet refined gastronomic hub of José Ignacio
- LUZ’s restaurant & bar changes its menu daily to use only the freshest, in-season ingredients from the nearby woods and ocean
- They make their own olive oil, wines and gin!
- Each suite has a super king size bed, log-fire and private terrace or patio
- Two nights a month they put on a noche de cine (outdoor cinema)
- Nur forest – a magical candle-lit evening of ‘family-style’ dining on a 9-metre long table in the middle of a pine forest

There’s plenty on offer within LUZ’s private estate.
Stroll along trails, winding through pine forest, practice yoga by the laguna or treat yourself to a personalised spa treatment. If you’re looking for something more active, there’s go-karting, tennis and mountain biking.
Food is a highlight! Start your day with a picnic breakfast amongst the olives groves. For lunch, graze on organic salad and fresh fish by the pool. Then end the day, dining amidst the pine trees at UNA’s pop single-table restaurant. Of course, washing everything down with a glass of LUZ’s very own rosé or red wine.
It may be hard to drag yourself out of LUZ’s grounds, but it’s definitely worth it. Head to the Atlantic coast for exceptional beaches, a buzzing gastronomic scene and activities such as surfing and kitesurfing.
Or, venture inland to explore the sleepy Uruguayan countryside. Visit the state-of-art winery, Bodega Garzon, ride with a gaucho through the hills or head to the laguna for windsurfing. Make sure not to miss Restaurant Garzon owned by world-renowned chef, Francis Mallmann.

The international airport in Punta del Este is a 55 minute drive from LUZ and Montevideo’s International Airport is just under 2 hours away.
It’s also possible to arrive at the lodge via helicopter.

When
to Travel
November to April
LUZ is a great year-round destination, with the warm summer months that fall between November and April providing perfect beach conditions, but the milder months of July to late-October having the advantage of fewer visitors and a better chance to see Franca whales.
