Estancia Pampa Grande

WELCOME TO ESTANCIA PAMPA GRANDE

Estancia Pampa Grande is a spectacular private estate, extending over 30,000 hectares of sub-Andean mountains and valleys.

Situated on the old Inca trail, 150 km south of Salta City, northwest Argentina, the estancia was once residence of the founder of Salta City, passing in 1816 to General Arenales, one of the founding fathers of the Argentine nation.

What we love about Estancia Pampa Grande

  • The eleven rooms, each simple, rustic, and cosy, with an open fireplace
  • The large Spanish colonial house, composed of wide galleries, a central courtyard, terracotta tiles and beautiful local furnishings
  • The location – the estancia sits in a small village of 150 inhabitants, 50 of whom are gauchos for the estancia
  • The estancia’s herb and kitchen garden is always bustling with activity – everything that ends up on the table is bred, grown, and harvested from the estate
What to do at ESTANCIA PAMPA GRANDE

Pampa Grande provides a rare insight into authentic estancia life.

Little has changed here over the past 100 years, and guests are invited to participate in the daily routines of the gauchos, rounding and branding cattle, enjoying rodeos and exploring the estate on foot or horseback.

Estancia Pampa Grande is home to a herd of several hundred horses, with 150 used by the gauchos to work the estancia’s cattle. Avid horse riders can spend a couple of days riding in the hills, using mules to carry bags. Sleep under the stars in a tent or sleeping bags.

There is a swimming pool and games room with billiards, table tennis and countless board games.

Pampa Grande remains a word of mouth property, mercifully out of the mainstream circuit. Combine a stay here with a road trip through northwest Argentina.

When
to Travel

Estancia Pampa Grande can be visited year round. June to September is winter, and the weather is warm and dry during the day, but the temperature drops at night. The weather is hot during the summer, which is between December and February.

We’d recommend avoiding February and March, as these months experience the heaviest downpours.
