Anacardier

ATINS, BRAZIL

WELCOME TO ANACARDIER

Anacardier Privé is a small, laid-back hotel set between dunes, river and sea in the remote fishing village of Atins.

There are just a handful of suites and bungalows, with whitewashed walls, straw roofs and softly curved architecture set amongst gardens and cashew trees. An outdoor pool, glass sauna, roof terrace and wonderful restaurant form a series of relaxed communal spaces.

Whether you’re fresh from kitesurfing, walking the dunes of nearby Lençois Maranhenses, or simply doing nothing, this is a place that invites you to slow down.

What we love about Anacardier

  • Chic design, with whitewashed walls, locally-made furnishings, pebble mirrors and beautiful linens.
  • The light, airy suites, each with a private balcony, double shower and air conditioning
  • The central pool, surrounded by shady trees and hammocks, with a glass sauna tucked just beyond.
  • The excellent D’Cajous restaurant, serving contemporary Brazilian cuisine under the direction of chef Marcelo Exel – worth a trip even if you’re staying elsewhere.
  • The setting at the edge of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park offers easy access to Atins and the dunes by foot, boat, quad bike or kite.

What to do at Anacardier

Step into Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, one of Brazil’s most surreal landscapes.

Its shifting dunes and seasonal lagoons can be explored on foot, horseback or by quad bike for swimming and picnicking on the sands. Atins’ renowned kitesurfing spots are also within walking distance, and private lessons can be arranged with local instructors.

For something slower, drift down the Preguiças River by boat, spotting mangroves, small villages and wildlife as you go. Back at the hotel, play a spot of beach tennis, cool off in the pool, or head for the bar for a perfectly-mixed caipirinha as the sun sets.

When to Travel

June to September

The best time to visit Anacardier Privé and the Lençóis Maranhenses is from June to September when the lagoons between the dunes are at their fullest after the rainy season, creating the surreal, mirror-like pools the park is known for. Expect warm days around 28–32°C, cooler evenings, and plenty of sun. From October to December, the lagoons begin to dry, but the landscape is still striking.
