Wara Nomade is a luxury beach camp set on Chile’s wild Pacific coast, where the southern Atacama Desert meets the sea.
Remote and off-grid, the camp features stylish canvas tents with wood-burning stoves, open-air bathrooms, and sweeping views of cliffs, dunes, and empty beaches.
Far from the tourist trail of northern Atacama, this lesser-known region offers desert hikes, archaeological outings, horse rides with local gauchos, and swims in the cold Pacific. Evenings are spent around the fire, dining under stars. Designed for travellers seeking solitude and comfort in equal measure, Wara Nomade moves with the seasons, ephemerally and unforgettably.
What we love about Wara Nomade
- Wara Nomade was dreamt up by architect Susana Aránguiz, owner of the stunning Wara Hotel (45mins inland) and one of the designers of Awasi Atacama.
- Before Susana created Wara, this stretch of coast was a family secret.
- A maximum of six guests stay in three luxury ensuite safari-style tents decked in Andean textiles, so privacy and exclusivity come with the territory.
- At night, paths are illuminated by lanterns, adding to the magic and ensuring minimal impact on the natural environment.
- Most meals are grilled over an open fire – the fresh seafood here is as out of this world as the stargazing.
- The clarity of the Atacama atmosphere makes for some of the clearest skies on the planet, resulting in perfect stargazing conditions.

Days are for reading, beach-combing, swimming, and snorkelling for scallops.
The less languid can paddle-board or kayak to spot sea lions and, from November to January, the occasional visiting whale.
For those looking for adventure, there is dune-buggying, trekking, sand-boarding, 4×4 expeditions, mountaineering, and a coast of cool emerald waters and powdery beaches. The Atacama’s night skies are amongst the clearest of anywhere on the planet, making it an incredible destination for stargazing.
Those wanting to experience the region’s most dramatic landscapes should head for the Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, either by helicopter from Wara, or as an unforgettable overland journey into Argentina.

Access to Wara Nomade is via Copiapo. Guests would typically fly from Santiago to Copiapo and transfer an hour from there, splitting their time between the two Wara properties. Those looking for high altitude adventure can travel overland into Argentina via the Paso San Francisco, which takes approximately 8hrs.

When to Travel
September to April
The Southern Atacama is a year-round destination. Wara Hotel, just outside Copiapo, is open all year, but Wara Nomade operates only during the warmer months of September through mid-April.
