Wara Nomade is a luxury beach camp set on Chile’s wild Pacific coast, where the southern Atacama Desert meets the sea.
Remote and off-grid, this part of the coast was a family secret before the camp was dreamt up by architect Susana Aránguiz. Open seasonally from September to April, there are nine stylish safari-style tents with sweeping views of cliffs, dunes, and empty beaches.
Far from the tourist trail of northern Atacama, this lesser-known region offers desert hikes, archaeological outings, horse rides with local gauchos, and swims in the cold Pacific. Evenings are spent around the fire, dining under stars.

The less languid can paddle-board or kayak to spot sea lions and, from November to January, the occasional visiting whale.
For those looking for adventure, there is dune-buggying, trekking, sand-boarding, 4×4 expeditions, mountaineering, and a coast of cool emerald waters and powdery beaches. The Atacama’s night skies are amongst the clearest of anywhere on the planet, making it an incredible destination for stargazing.
Those wanting to experience the region’s most dramatic landscapes should head for the Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, either by helicopter from Wara, or as an unforgettable overland journey into Argentina.
Access to Wara Nomade is via Copiapo. Guests would typically fly from Santiago to Copiapo and transfer an hour from there, splitting their time between the two Wara properties. Those looking for high altitude adventure can travel overland into Argentina via the Paso San Francisco, which takes approximately 8hrs.

September to April
While the Southern Atacama is a year-round destination, Wara Nomade operates only during the warmer months of September through mid-April. For those travelling outside of these dates, we recommend its sister property a little further inland, Wara Hotel, which is open all year.
