OIÁ Casa sits in the village of Santo Amaro, surrounded by the clear lagoons and shifting dunes of Lençois Maranhenses.
Once a working farm, the property has been reimagined as an intimate guesthouse and temple to Brazilian design, food and wilderness. Small in scale but generous in spirit, it has just seven suites, divided between the main house and three standalone bungalows.
Brazil’s northeast is home to some of South America’s most striking and distinctive landscapes, yet its remoteness keeps it off the radar for most travellers. As a result, the region has retained a strong sense of character, even as a new wave of design-led hospitality begins to take root.
What we love about Oiá Casa Lençóis
- The secluded setting, with privileged access to some of Lençois Maranhenses’ most beautiful and remote lagoons.
- Architecture built around open-air living, with sandy tones that mirror the dunes.
- Interiors layered with Brazilian art and design, including pieces signed by renowned Brazilian artists and precious items made by Indigenous craftspeople.
- Fresh, inventive Brazilian cooking, with meals served in different outdoor settings.
- Highly personalised service, with OIÁ’s small, attentive team on hand throughout your stay.
- OIÁ’s knowledgeable guides, who lead a wide variety of experiences across the national park and coast.
Explore the vast white-sand dunes, where glittering freshwater lagoons appear in their thousands.
Set out with your guide across the sands by 4×4 or quad bike, stopping for fresh fruit and swims along the way. Take to the nearby coastline by boat, kayak along rivers, or visit nearby traditional communities.
The adventurous can trek across the sands to Santo Amaro, or kitesurf off the coast of nearby Atins, a mecca for kitesurf lovers. Back at OIÁ, kick back in a hammock with a book before a candlelit dinner among the dunes.
Access to Oia Casa Lencois is via Santo Amaro, generally used as the gateway to the national park.
After flying into Barreirinhas airport, the transfer to the guesthouse is a 1.5 hour drive.
When to Travel
The best time to visit Lençois Maranhenses is between June and September, when the lagoons are at their fullest following heavy rains from March to May.
After September, the lagoons begin to dry up. Temperatures remain warm throughout the year, with a strong coastal breeze.
