Tucked within a private slice of Brazil’s Mata Atlântica, with 175 metres of pristine Itapororoca beachfront, UXUA Maré is a nature sanctuary and slow-living retreat.
Created by the brilliant minds behind UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa in Trancoso’s historic quadrado, UXUA Maré is the next chapter in their vision. Three century-old antique houses have been deconstructed in Minas Gerais, reassembled here with reclaimed wood, and updated with solar power and a groundwater well. The interiors are impossibly stylish but unfussy, filled with antiques, local art and handcrafted pieces from Pataxó artisans.
Beyond the comforts of the casas, the location couldn’t be better. Monkeys, sloths, and parrots live in the trees, coral reefs are alive with tropical fish just offshore, and a growing collection of rare palms and edible plants nurture a near self-sufficient retreat.

Wander along Itapororoca Beach, where low-tide coral pools attract tropical fish and local spearfishermen. Watch for sagui monkeys, sloths, parrots, and teju lizards in the surrounding forest. Explore trails through restinga and mangroves, or visit Trancoso’s historic town square, just a short drive away, for artisan boutiques and vibrant local life.
At the property itself, spend afternoons by your private pool, surrounded by the sounds of the forest, or join reforestation efforts and learn about native plants at the on-site nursery.
When to Travel
November to March
The best time to visit is from November to March, during Bahia’s dry season, when days are warm (averaging 25–30°C) and skies are clear. Perfect for beach walks, swimming, and exploring the forest trails. From April to June, light rains make the landscape even lusher, with quieter beaches and fewer visitors. July to September can bring occasional heavier rain and cooler evenings, though wildlife spotting remains excellent year-round.
