Arriving at Holguin, in the east of the island, you will explore the splendour and energy of the former capital, Santiago de Cuba for two nights, before being driven along the vertiginous Farola mountain pass to Baracoa. The region contains one of the most biologically diverse tropical island sites on Earth – the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park – pretty colonial towns, stunning beaches, and the best food on the island. Accommodation tends to be clean and very simple for this half of the journey.
On day five, you will fly to the capital of Cuba, La Habana, where you’ll be staying at the coolest digs in town. We’ll make sure you experience the best of this intoxicating city over four nights. There will of course be the chance to take part in rum tasting and cigar rolling, as well as an opportunity to catch the Cuban National Ballet and grasp the basics of son and salsa with dance classes. Learn more about Cuba’s vibrant culture with an afternoon spent in the company of a local musicologist, and be sure to visit the art galleries and private studios dotted across the city before flying home out of Havana.
