WELCOME TO EL CALAFATE

A wild Patagonian reserve with comfort dialled in. Explora El Calafate brings soaring horizons, open skies, and refined adventure.

Located on a working Patagonian estancia just 30km from the town of El Calafate and sitting near the shores of Lago Argentino, Explora El Calafate opens the door to the remote grandeur of southern Patagonia.

This lodge offers a rare combination of wild steppe, sweeping glacial vistas, and tranquil seclusion, all within easy reach of the celebrated Perito Moreno Glacier. We love how it blends warm hospitality with icy peaks, shimmering lakes, and rugged nature, offering a truly unforgettable escape.

When to Travel

El Calafate can be visited year-round, but the prime season runs from October to March when daylight stretches up to 16 hours and temperatures average 15 to 20 °C. Summer is ideal for glacier walks and long days outdoors.

Spring, beginning in September, sees the steppe coming back to life with wildflowers, milder winds, and excellent conditions for hiking before peak season arrives. Daytime highs climb to around 10–14 °C, while nights can stay chilly at 0–3 °C.

Autumn, from March into April, brings softer light, golden colours and quieter trails, ideal for photography and slower explorations. Expect daytime temperatures of about 12–16 °C in March, falling to 10–12 °C in April, with nights dipping to around 3–6 °C.
