WELCOME TO ESTANCIA LA SERRANA
On a vast stretch of pampas, Estancia La Serrana offers a considered interpretation of Argentine country life, shaped by Basque heritage and generations of family tradition.
At the centre of its 500-hectare grounds stands a grand eight-bedroom main house – solid, handsome, and built for company. There’s a polo field, a swimming pool, a tennis court. This is a place designed for gathering, whether to mark an occasion or simply to spend time with those that matter. Though only a short drive from the coastal city of Mar del Plata, it feels far removed from anywhere.
Come for the horses, the stillness, the landscapes. This is rural Argentina at its best – bucolic, and deeply restorative.
What we love about Estancia La Serrana
- The elegant design of the main house, inspired by Edmond Rostand’s Villa Arnaga, full of character and charm.
- The eight generous bedrooms, including one five-bedroom dormitory for children – perfect for family gatherings.
- Long, peaceful horse rides across open land, with horses for all experience levels.
- The secluded clay tennis court and clubhouse nook for post-match drinks and downtime.
- The heated swimming pool, with comfortable loungers and plenty of shaded areas.
- The estancia is committed to sustainable, organic farming practices: they brew their own beer, and produce their own flour and vegetables.

What to do at Estancia La Serrana
Experience the rhythm of estancia life, where wide open spaces and slow days invite you to reconnect, unwind, and explore.
Begin your morning on horseback, riding for hours through open countryside without crossing another soul. La Serrana’s horses are well-schooled and sure-footed, and rides can be tailored to your pace. There’s a polo field, and matches can be arranged with local players with enough notice.
Back at La Serrana, play a few sets on the private clay tennis court, then retreat to the clubhouse nook for something cool and well-earned, or kick back and relax by the pool. There’s plenty of space to simply be: gather for long, lazy meals, celebrate with friends and family, or just enjoy the stillness that defines this part of Argentina.
Beyond the estancia, there are four nearby golf courts, wonderful rock climbing spots, and beaches along the Mar del Plata coast. Deep sea fishing can be arranged, with your catch prepared on your return. The Costa y Pampa winery – part-owned by the family behind La Serrana – is well worth a visit, or private tasting of the family wines can be arranged at the estancia.
