UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa is the only boutique property on Trancoso’s UNESCO-listed Quadrado – a village green framed by fishermen’s cottages and a 17th-century church.
Conceived by Wilbert Das, former creative director of Diesel, UXUA blends Bahian craft with quietly radical design.
Ten casas – some original, others built using salvaged materials – sit tucked among palms and jackfruit trees, each one distinct, laid-back and meticulously detailed. There’s a copper-lined pool made from old fishing boats, a beach club on one of Trancoso’s quieter stretches, and a restaurant that reworks Bahian classics with restraint. Stylish but never showy, UXUA is design with a soul.
What we love about Uxua
- The nine brightly painted casitas, each designed in collaboration with local artisans, are at the heart of UXUA’s charm. Some are restored fisherman’s homes facing the historic Quadrado; others are hidden away in the lush tropical gardens. No two are the same, but all are joyful, characterful spaces that celebrate Bahia’s rich creative culture.
- Interiors are a treasure trove of Bahian expression, from vibrant folk art to reclaimed wood furniture and ceramics sourced in Minas Gerais, Brazil’s colonial design capital. The result is eclectic yet harmonious, with every detail telling a story.
- The pace is gloriously unhurried. Start with yoga or pilates in the garden, follow with a treatment in the al fresco spa – set beside a lily-covered pond – then stretch out by the copper-lined pool or wander down to UXUA’s private beach lounge.
- The open-air restaurant serves fresh, unfussy Bahian dishes – think moquecas, grilled fish, and tropical fruit salads – prepared with ingredients sourced locally or grown in the hotel’s organic garden.
- The cocktails are expertly mixed with cachaça, fresh fruit and plenty of flair, they’re best enjoyed under a canopy of stars, soundtracked by the easy pulse of Trancoso nights.
- The hotel’s commitment to sustainability and community runs deep – from using recycled and reclaimed materials in its construction, to training and employing local artisans, chefs, and therapists. UXUA isn’t just in Trancoso; it’s of Trancoso, woven into the cultural and environmental fabric of the village.

Days at Uxua are calm. Enjoy the glorious beaches, and the local culture in Trancoso’s UNESCO village center.
Nights come to life in this sleepy town with restaurants, music and all things Brazilian!
Expertly-mixed caipirinhas roll from cocktail shaker to poolside lounger and the on-site spa employs some of the best hands in Bahia.
For those looking to be a bit more active, there’s a platform for capoeira lessons. You’ll find opportunities for cycling, fishing, hiking, snorkelling, and scuba diving nearby.

Uxua lies between the Atlantic rainforest and the sugary beaches of Trancoso in Brazil – possibly the world’s smartest fishing village turned mega beach hot spot.
Uxua is approximately an hour’s drive from Porto Seguro. There are direct flights to Porto Seguro from a number of locations within Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Sao Paulo.
