Gladden Private Island, Belize | Plan South America

Beach | Belize | Private Island | Property

Located off the Caribbean coast of Belize and with capacity for just four guests, Gladden Private Island is as private and exclusive as it gets. Described as “relaxed elegance”, Gladden is situated in the heart of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System.

What we love about Gladden Private Island

  • The seclusion – even the staff at Gladden are on a separate island, and only ever come over on request
  • The two-bedroom villa – spacious, minimalistic, and with huge windows offering incredible ocean views
  • The rooftop deck with a plunge pool that overlooks the sea
  • The food – a private chef comes to the villa to prepare meals. The fresh fish is a highlight, as you can imagine!

What to do at Gladden Private Island?

Head out on Gladden’s private boat to explore some of the world’s best snorkelling and diving spots. Go spear or deep-sea fishing. Try your hand at kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Visit nearby private islands and stop for a beer or two.

Indulge in delicious meals. Enjoy cocktails whilst watching dolphins swim past. Be sure to have a massage – they are to die for!

Map & location

The address for Gladden Private Island is “20 miles off the coast of Placencia”. This says it all – Gladden is remote.

There are direct flights from Belize City to Placencia and the flying time is approximately an hour. Once in Placencia, a representative from Gladden will transfer you to the island by speed boat, which takes approximately 45 minutes.

Alternatively, we can arrange a helicopter directly from Belize City airport. You’ll be in the helicopter for approximately 40 minutes and the views are out of this world.

When to Travel

Gladden Private Island can be visited year round, although we would recommend visiting during Belize’s dry season, which is between December and April, to avoid the heaviest downpours.

From April to June, whale sharks can be found in the area. You may even have the opportunity to swim with them. Don’t worry, they’re gentle giants!
