From the full-bodied reds of Colchagua Valley to the Cabernet Sauvignon of the Maipo province, sample delicious wines amidst stunning scenery on a small group holiday to the Andean wine region. Enjoy private tastings and tours at some of the finest wineries, feast on local produce and gaze out at lush vineyards and snow-capped mountains.
Firstly we’ll experience a fascinating blend of history, innovative cuisine and artistic enclaves in Chile’s dynamic capital, Santiago. We’ll be staying for two nights at Hotel Magnolia, a beautiful 1920s townhouse tucked away in the historic centre. Take in sweeping views over the city from Cerro San Cristobal, before exploring hip bars and street art in the Bellavista neighbourhood. It’s a short drive from here to Maipo Valley, the origin of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, nestled in the foothills of the Andes.
Next we’ll head south towards Colchagua Valley, home to the country’s famed carménère wine. Spend the next three nights amongst acres of fertile vineyards at Viña La Playa. Fabulous dishes are paired with young, fresh wines at this charming winery.
At celebrated wineries including Neyen and Casa Lapostolle, discover the stories behind each bottle at private tastings. Culinary experiences are no less impressive. We’ll feast on seasonal dishes cooked over an open fire at Fuegos de Apalta, led by world-renowned chef Francis Mallmann. Then in the Millahue Valley, indulge in a five-course lunch at Viña VIK. This sumptuous wine retreat has been named one of Chile’s top vineyards, and offers plentiful opportunities for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking in the vast surrounding nature reserve.
Finally we fly to Mendoza, the heartland of Argentina’s wine production. Kick back at Alpasion, a luxurious winery and lodge with just six rooms. From here, we’ll visit stylish wineries home to impressive art collections and hike in the majestic landscapes of the Uco Valley. Undoubtedly one of the region’s most outstanding restaurants is Siete Fuegos, also run by Francis Mallmann, where we’ll savour mouthwatering, regional dishes showcasing Argentina’s famous beef.
