Hacienda Cabo Velas is more than your average luxury estate. Situated on a picturesque peninsula on the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica, this 1,700-acre working cattle ranch comprises rich pastures, citrus groves, woodland and more than four miles of pristine beach. There are myriad activities on offer, including tennis, fishing, surfing, trekking, horseback riding and cattle herding. Perhaps most importantly of all, the on-site naturalist guides are in a league of their own.

The Cabo Velas property sleeps up to 16, split between five stunningly decorated thatched roof ranchos – each a mere 50 yards from the beach. Each accommodation features a master suite on the ground floor and a smaller bedroom upstairs. Both rooms have dressing rooms and en-suite bathrooms, while the master bedroom also has a comfortable seating area and an outdoor shower. In all rooms, there is the option of either king sized or twin beds.

The main house features a living and dining room – both large and airy, with views to the Pacific. Meal times at Cabo Velas are biblical, and served on one of two terraces, accompanied by the sound of breaking waves, howler monkeys and bird song. At the end of the main Cabuya beach, there is a large free-form swimming pool and tennis court.

The Guanacaste climate is warm, dry and breezy year-round, with a season that lasts about ten months. The property is only an hour’s drive from Liberia international airport and the estate has its own grass runway for those flying privately. This is the most dream-like property we know of in Costa Rica. As it’s only available for private rental (not by room), we recommend it for families and groups of friends.
