Standing within Chile’s esteemed Santa Rita Winery is Hotel Casa Real: a restored 19th century mansion that feels like the setting of a novel from the same era.
Just 45 minutes from Santiago, the former summer home of the winery’s founder was renovated in the mid 1990s to offer guests an exclusive and whimsical enotourism experience. Inside the walls of the estate, you’ll lounge in the original fittings of Victorian salons and dine by candlelight beneath high ceilings and crystal chandeliers.
Outside the estate, the grounds’ 40 hectares offer plenty to wander. Stroll with a glass of award-winning red in hand through immaculate gardens, where you’ll find Roman baths and Renaissance-style fountains at every turn.
What we love about Hotel Casa Real
- The estate’s commitment to preserving its original aesthetics and architecture, for which it was declared a historical monument in 1972.
- 16 beautifully decorated rooms that overlook gardens and courtyards designed to make you feel like a part of the hotel’s history.
- Absolute privacy and exclusivity being tucked away in one of Chile’s longest-standing wineries.
- A magnificent neo-Gothic chapel completed in 1885, where guests can enjoy both small concerts or a moment of peace.
- Welcoming and personalized service that make guests feel at home in this extravagant setting.
- Outdoor pools and a newly remodeled gym, which offers 180 degree views of the gardens.
Art history buffs and wine lovers alike have much to appreciate at Hotel Casa Real.
After settling in to your room overlooking the park, you’ll want to decanter a bottle of one of Santa Rita’s seductive Cabernets. As you taste and enjoy the delectable product of your surroundings, roam the halls of your home for the next few nights, where you’ll discover many of the hotel’s original spaces have been preserved for their original use. Wander the shaded courtyards and remarkably landscaped gardens to find the perfect spot to relax or get lost in a book.
Visit the Santa Rita Chapel and gaze up at images of saints painted by one of Chile’s top 19th century artists. Allot time to enjoy one or several of the winery’s premium experiences, such as a horse drawn carriage ride, a pedal bar tour through the grounds, a prepared picnic or a visit to the Andean museum.
The lodge is located in the heart of Torres del Paine, a national park in Chilean Patagonia and the southern tiers of the Andes.
To reach Explora Torres Del Paine, you can fly into Santiago, Chile, and then take a connecting flight to Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales. From there, Explore can provide private transfers that take you through the Patagonian landscape to the lodge. The journey from Punta Arenas takes about five hours by car, while from Puerto Natales, it takes around two hours.
When to Travel
Hotel Casa Real can be enjoyed all year round. We recommend a springtime visit between September and November, when the estate gardens are in full bloom. The Autumn months of March to May will also colour your surroundings as the trees burn orange and red. The summer months (December to February) offer the best weather for exploring the areas that surround Chile’s Maipo Valley.
