Start your honeymoon adventure in Uruguay
Although one of South America’s smallest countries, Uruguay is a favourite spot for honeymoons. Montevideo, the vibrant yet laidback capital, is bustling with life and street art. Why not start your journey here and embark on a road trip along the Ruta Nacional 10 which connects with Punta del Este and the little beach towns that line the coast? We recommend visiting the relaxed villages of Garzon and Jose Ignacio for excellent food and laidback living. Cabo Polonia is home to remote hippy beaches, where you can kite surf and surfing.
Argentina’s romantic side
For one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations, we recommend Argentina. Buenos Aires, hailed as the Paris of South America, with cobbled streets, rooftop bars and world-class restaurants. Buzzing Palermo offers a more contemporary vibe and San Telmo is rich in history. The rest of Argentina offers vast pampas, glaciers, deepwater lakes, snow-dusted volcanoes and rolling vineyards. Argentine estancias provide the best insight into local life and warm hospitality. Estancia La Violeta is a little known gem with five gorgeous rooms and delicious homemade food. This estancia is also known for hosting exciting polo matches. Another firm favourite is Estancia La Madrugada, the new kid on the block, tucked away in the pampas. For those into wine and jawdropping Andean backdrops, we recommend heading to Mendoza‘s Valle de Uco.
From here, head south for Patagonia to incorporate some adventures on foot or on horseback. We are specialists at riding holidays so know the best spots to explore on horseback for a more off-grid honeymoon in South America. Think cosy lodges and roaring fires overlooking vast plains and deepwater lakes, watching as the sun sets over jagged Andean peaks.
Honeymoon your way through Chile
Chile comes high on the list as a top honeymoon destination in South America and offers some of the best lodges, from luxury Tierra Patagonia and Awasi Patagonia, to stylishly Wara Nomade and earthy Barraco Lodge. Tierra Patagonia is open and spacious with panoramic views of the rugged landscape of Torres del Paine National Park. And Wara Nomade has three tented-style rooms with a boho feel, sip on Pisco Sours while a private chef rustles up something delicious and you think about the next part of the adventure. The middle of nowhere has never looked so good.
Peru & The Andean Explorer
Peru should certainly consideration: Sol y Luna sits in the Sacred Valley, peaceful and breathtaking in equal measures. Our must-do? A trip on the Andean Explorer, the train journey which winds itself through the foothills of the Andes from Cusco to Arequipa. Stay a little longer…
Depending on how long you’ve got, we think Mexico is your best bet for white-sand beaches and a chance to really kickback. Hotel Esencia is one of our favourite spots.
