Playa Cativo

WELCOME TO PLAYA CATIVO

Accessible only by boat, this 400 hectare private reserve offers both excellent wildlife experiences and direct beach access.

Playa Cativo is located beyond the remote Osa Peninsula, at the southern end of Costa Rica’s pacific coast. Guests can use the snorkels, kayaks and paddleboards free of charge, or explore the rainforest by choosing from a range of excursions.

What we love about Playa Cativo

  • Remote location, only reachable by boat
  • Open-air layout of the rooms and common areas
  • Fresh-water swimming pool
  • Organic farm that produces ingredients for the hotel’s restaurants to use
  • Focus on sustainability
  • Opportunity to spot dolphins, monkeys and a variety of birds
  • Outstanding service and friendly guides
What to do at Playa Cativo

The wild rainforest surrounding Playa Cativo is well worth the adventure of reaching the property by boat.

We suggest our clients spend three or four nights at Playa Cativo.

This is one of Costa Rica‘s greenest and wildest areas. Days are spent hiking through the Piedras Blancas National Park, searching for dolphins in the Golfo Dulce, or deep sea fishing.

Guests can also enjoy the hotel’s complimentary stand-up paddleboards, kayaking, and snorkelling equipment. A few days a month, it’s possible to see sparkling lights in the water after nightfall, which are a result of bioluminescence.

The humidity in this area means that an afternoon relaxing by the hotel’s fresh-water swimming pool is often welcomed. Yoga is available either on the hotel’s yoga decks, or on a stand-up paddle board on the sea.

PLAYA CATIVO

Playa Cativo is located by the Osa Peninsula, a world-renowned wildlife haven. It is a short car journey and a 30-minute boat ride from either Golfito or Puerto Jiménez.

There are direct daily flights from San Jose to Golfito or Puerto Jiménez The flight duration is approximately 45 minutes.

When
to Travel

Costa Rica has two seasons. The dry season starts in December and runs through to April, and the rainy season starts in May and runs through to November. The weather only varies a little on the Osa Peninsula so conditions will be warm and with a chance of rain year-round, but we recommend travelling between December and April to avoid the heaviest downpours.
