Anya Campbell has photographed the Mongol Derby from horseback, followed Inuit hunters in Greenland, and spent a decade as private photographer to the late Aga Khan. She’s also among the few to have ridden with @jakotango both in northern Patagonia and on their End of the World Ride, in Tierra del Fuego.

With summer planning gathering pace, we’re sharing a handful of our favourite whole-family adventures. First stop: Peru.

High in the Andes, explorers young and old can ride through open valleys, hear tales of battle in citadels that predate the conquistadors, and learn ancient crafts in remote villages. Machu Picchu is the natural crescendo – whether reached on foot along the old mountain trails, or more gently aboard the @belmondandeanexplorer as it chugs through the highlands.

Further south, paddle between the floating reed islands of Lake Titicaca, learning how communities have lived – and built – on the water for generations. End by sailing through the Amazon, setting out on night walks through the flooded forest, with pink river dolphins and monkeys never far from view.

This July, join us for five days of rest and reconnection at a private hacienda in Costa Rica’s wild northern highlands.

Set on a 1000-hectare private reserve in the foothills of Tenorio Volcano, Hacienda Montezuma is a traditional Costa Rican ranch where days still move to the tempo of the land.

From 16-21 July, it opens its doors for the first in a small, seasonal series of retreats, shaped by the restorative pull of nature. Hosted by the ranch’s owner, Floriana Acosta, alongside a select circle of practitioners and therapists, the programme blends yoga, meditation, forest walks, Costaphonics, breathwork and horse-led healing — all rooted in Costa Rica’s ancestral traditions.
