Ride through prehistoric monkey-puzzle forests stopping for a picnic lunch by a dramatic canyon. Hike to a ‘Pinohuacho’, an orphan tree, for stunning views over Lake Quillen or spend the day helping the gauchos with daily ranch activities.
If the weather’s playing ball, Santiago can drop you off at a remote lake-side beach with a picnic basket, bottle of Champagne and radio. Relax, swim, sunbathe and enjoy the solitude. When you feel like returning to the lodge, just give Santiago a call on the radio and he’ll pick you up.
After your daily adventure, indulge in a delicious afternoon tea and recharge with a soak in the bath. Whilst dinner is being prepared, sit out on the wrap around veranda with your book and a glass of wine. Later on, with no nearby street lights, this is also a fantastic place to stargaze with a nightcap!
We’d recommend staying a few days longer to be able to experience a riding and camping trip in the wilds of Patagonia. Pass through spectacular landscapes, cross steep mountains and gallop along lake-side beaches lined with emerald-coloured Patagonian pine trees. Far from ‘roughing it’, you’re treated to hot showers and G&Ts.
Located in the Neuquén Province of Argentina, within the northern section of Lanín National Park, Estancia Caballadas is set in the most secluded and spectacular area of the Patagonia Lake District, offering the utmost in privacy and exclusivity.
From Buenos Aires, Aerolineas Argentinas and LAN Argentina run daily flights to San Martin de los Andes, Neuquen, and Bariloche airports. By car, Estancia Caballadas is 2 hours from San Martin, 4 hours from Neuquen and 5 hours from Bariloche. Self-drive is easy and common in these parts of Patagonia, but it’s also possible to arrange a transfer.
Every month, the scenery surrounding Caballadas offers a different reason to visit! In Autumn, the landscapes glow orange and there are no bugs. During winter, the snow makes it enchanting. The waterfalls overflow during Spring and in summer wildflowers colour the meadows.
The Rural country show is a highlight of the Patagonian social calendar and takes place every January, offering a real insight into the gaucho way of life and Patagonian traditions.
