A modern purpose-built expedition ship, the Magellan Explorer holds a maximum of 75 guests.
There are seven different categories of accommodation. Grand suites have two rooms with a sitting room, balcony and bedroom. All double cabins have a king-sized bed that can be configured as twin beds. There are also single cabins for solo travellers.
At least 12 expert polar guides accompany each expedition.
An observation lounge has superb views of the ship’s changing surroundings. A presentation room is equipped with state of the art technology for lectures and talks.
There is a well-stocked bar for nightcaps, a cosy library, a stylish dining room and a sauna to relax weary muscles.
A forward-facing observation deck leading to the bow of the ship offers guests proximity to marine wildlife.

Avoiding sailing the tempestuous Drake Passage, the austral adventure begins in the Southern Chilean port city Punta Arenas. Fly on ‘Bigfoot’, a specially designed carrier for changeable Antarctic conditions. Arrive within two hours and embark the Magellan Explorer by zodiac.
Classic Antarctica Itinerary
A comprehensive and complete Antarctic experience, spend seven days and eight nights aboard the Magellan Explorer, sailing through incredible frozen seascapes and spotting diverse wildlife.
Pass through Chile’s Frei Station and Russia’s Bellingshausen Station finding out about life on these barely inhabited islands.
Discover the stunning landscapes of the South Shetland Islands on the western coast of the Antarctic. Pass majestic icebergs, ice-filled fjords while spotting seabirds, penguins, seals and whales along the way.
Disembark by zodiac and explore the terrain accompanied by expert polar guides.
Onboard, spend evenings winding down in the ship’s lounge or attend lectures and presentations led by expert naturalists.
Intrepid travellers looking for a more extensive adventure can embark on longer expeditions of 16 days, and set sail south, aiming to reach the Polar Circle. Set foot on South Georgia Island, known for its diverse landscape of soaring peaks, glistening glaciers, grassy uplands and bubbling fjords.
Schedules and itineraries remain flexible dependant on weather conditions, but there are possibilities to visit the volcanic and geothermally heated Paulet Island and discover Adélie penguin colonies.
Admire the glaciated mountains and ice cliffs of Paradise Harbour. Look on as groups of icebergs calve off the mainland.
See Deception Island, an incredible slice of land made of the volcano’s caldera located near the edge of the Antarctic peninsula. An active volcano, ash and hot lava have often spewed into the freezing waters. An incredible variety of wildlife inhabits the island’s shores including Wilson’s Storm Petrels, Dominican Gulls and Antarctic Terns.
Sailing back towards South America, pass through the Beagle Channel, Navarino and finally Tierra del Fuego, the tip of Argentine Patagonia. Disembark at Ushuaia, the last stop on the expedition.
