Ultramarine
A polar expedition on the Ultramarine is one of education, exploration, environmentally responsible tourism and, of course, endless enjoyment. The 199-passenger vessel is undertaking her inaugural Antarctic season in 2021 and she looks set to be a game- changer when it comes to conquering the polar region.
Featuring a unique water-level hangar with 20 quick-deploy Zodiacs, the Ultramarine is also the only polar vessel with two twin-engine helicopters and two helicopter landing pads – which means it’s not just a luxury Antarctic cruise, but an industry leader when it comes to off-ship offerings that range from viewing spectacular polar landscapes only accessible by air, to heli-trekking, sea kayaking and paddle boarding.
But guests don’t need to leave the ship to immerse themself in all things polar – the Ultramarine has more outdoor wildlife viewing spaces than any other expedition ship of her size, and there are daily presentations in the Ambassadors Theatre by experts in glaciology, penguinology, marine biology and other polar specific subjects. And if a guest would rather tune in from the luxury of their suite, the programme can be broadcast into your room.
All the Ultramarine’s spa inspired suites have ocean views and private bathrooms with heated floors, while some suites include balconies. The ships sauna meanwhile boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that allow guests to enjoy the outdoors from indoors, staying toasty as they admire the stunning vistas outside. Massages are also available at Tundra, the Ultramarine’s Spa and Wellness Centre, and there is a fully equipped gym and yoga studio for everyone’s use.
There is outstanding food too at the Balena Restaurant, inspired by cuisines from around the world, where every seat has a great polar view and there is access to a 360-degree wraparound deck. Guests can also eat at the Bistro on the upper deck and at one of the ship’s four bars.
