WELCOME TO NORTHERN PATAGONIA & THE LAKES

The provinces of Neuquén and Río Negro, in northern Patagonia, boast a wild and rugged landscape of diaphanous lakes, and luxuriant forests and meadows.

While there are plenty of opportunities for eating well and relaxing with a good book, the focus in Patagonia is on outdoor pursuits. Every mountain, stretch of grassland, river and lake appears to have been created to fulfil the dreams of riders, fishermen and walkers.

Northern Patagonia’s fly-fishing for rainbow and brown trout is among the finest and most picturesque in the world. The region also boasts two of the continent’s best golf courses and wonderful opportunities for bird-watchers. Come winter (July through September), Bariloche and San Martin de Los Andes offer spectacular skiing.

TRAVELLING DEEPER

Characterised by pristine lakes, dense forests, and expansive meadows, serves as a sanctuary for those seeking both tranquility and adventure.

The region’s clear waters and untouched wilderness make it a premier destination for fly fishing, offering serene moments in pursuit of rainbow and brown trout. For the more adventurous, the mountains and grasslands provide endless opportunities for hiking, horseback riding with gauchos, and exploring the rugged terrain on bike or foot. The vibrant towns of Bariloche and San Martin de Los Andes come alive in winter with some of the best skiing in South America, while the warmer months reveal golf courses and bird-watching excursions that showcase the region’s diverse flora and fauna.

We have selected a handful of boutique hotels and gloriously remote lakeside lodges to suit any occasion. Those who like getting their hands dirty can stay on a working estancia, setting out each morning with the gauchos to herd cattle, stopping for asado (traditional Argentine barbecue) lunches of prime beef or fresh trout before enjoying a doze in the shade or a dip in the river.
