WELCOME TO LAKE TITICACA

Lake Titicaca straddles the border of Peru and Bolivia and, at 3,810 metres above sea level, is the highest navigable body of water in the world.

The area is considered the cradle of Andean civilisation and is home to the Uros people.

Titicaca’s famous floating islands offer a fascinating perspective into the lives of Peru’s indigenous culture. Here, the totora reed is sacred and is used to build the islands, houses, boats & watchtowers. Even the Uros diet is dependent on the starchy white heart of the reeds.

TRAELLING DEEPER

We have options at both ends of the spectrum, from lakeside lodges with spa treatments & hot tubs to homestays with local Uros families, where guests fish for their supper & learn to hand-loom textiles.

On Taquile Island, visitors can admire terraces of lima beans, maize and potatoes and learn the origins of the islanders’ traditional dress and beautiful embroidery.

Float across Lake Titicaca, exploring the 41 islands. Learn about daily island life from the Uros people, and enjoy the bright and kaleidoscopic textiles worn by the locals.
